An example of the strong designs to be found from some of the smaller and amateur cycling teams.
Dating from 1983 this jersey is a good example of the designs of the period, sponsor branding could always be found on the chest, back and sleeves of earlier kit but in the early 1980’s it was now common to also see branding on the sides of the jerseys aswell.
Sponsors began to see all areas of the jersey as valuable real estate on which to promote their brand.
While most of the French manufacturers had switched to using acrylic for their items the Italian manufacturers continued to use wool (although now with a 20% mix of acrylic) right up until the mass change over to using polyester in the mid 1980’s.
