The most iconic cycling jersey ever produced from Italian team Brooklyn.
This stunning design ran from 1973 to 1977, it’s one of those designs which, thanks to it’s use of the colours of the American flag is instantly recognisable. The detailing of the Brooklyn bridge at the chest and branding on the sleeves contrasts perfectly to the bold black on white panel on the chest.
It’s notoriety is in no small part thanks to it’s star team rider Belgian Roger de Vlaeminck who thanks to his string of victories throughout his time riding for the team ensured it was seen crossing the finishing line first on countless occasions.
De Vlaeminck was known as ‘the Gipsy’ due to being born into a family of travelling clothiers, he was also known as ‘Mister Paris – Roubaix’ thanks to his four victories in the gruelling Spring Classic from Chantilly outside Paris to the town of Roubaix across the border in Belgium.
If you fancy viewing his exploits during the same race of 1976 head on over to the blog where you can see the fantastic documentary ‘A Sunday in Hell’ made by Danish filmmaker Jorgen Leth.
